The two companies have agreed to develop a major infrastructure project for transporting captured CO2 from emitters to safe storage sites in the North Sea, connecting Belgium to Norway. The project is in the feasibility stage, with an investment decision expected by 2025.
A powerful consortium of four Belgian industrial players – Prefer, Fluxys Belgium, Lhoist and Orbix – have joined forces to help decarbonise Belgian industry and provide a sustainable solution for the construction sector. They have now been selected by an European innovation fund (Innovation Fund Small Scale) and will receive a €4.5 million grant. Although there is still another administrative step to complete by March 2023, this announcement is wonderful news for the project, as it crystallises the work of the consortium and gives it the boost it needs to successfully carry out the project.
Fluxys, Advario Stolthaven Antwerp and Advario Gas Terminal have joined forces to study the feasibility of building an open-access green ammonia import terminal at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The plan is to offer the market a robust solution to its growing demands for importing and storing green energy and raw materials against a backdrop of ongoing decarbonisation.
The EU Commission announced it will grant Air Liquide, Fluxys Belgium and Port of Antwerp-Bruges €144.6 million under the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy (CEF-E) funding program. The funding is earmarked for the construction of shared CO₂ transport and export facilities on the Antwerp port platform. The grant award is a major step towards the final investment decision, expected in 2023.
GASCADE and Fluxys have applied to the European Commission for Project of Common Interest (PCI) status for the AquaDuctus project, marking a major step forward in their plans for an offshore pipeline for green hydrogen in the North Sea. The move by the two infrastructure operators highlights the project's importance for the hydrogen ramp-up.
On 8 December 2022 the EU Commission has announced it will grant Fluxys Belgium, North Sea Port and ArcelorMittal Belgium €9,6 million under the Connecting Europe Facility for Energy (CEF-E) funding program. The funding is earmarked for the study of the Ghent Carbon Hub project, an open-access multi modal CO₂ storage and liquefaction terminal in North Sea Port combined with a CO₂ pipeline network connecting the Walloon region to the hub in Ghent.
In June 2022, French and Belgian energy infrastructure operators GRTgaz and Fluxys Belgium launched a market call for developing the first open-access, cross-border hydrogen transmission network between France and Belgium, in the Hainaut region. 17 companies expressed an interest in connecting their production or consumption site to the proposed transmission network, for production capacity ranging from 300 to 600 MW and an associated hydrogen consumption of between 1.5 and 3 TWh/year, depending on the options considered. A feasibility study will now be launched.
This partnership between GRTgaz and Fluxys builds on the consultations conducted in France and Belgium in 2021-2022 to assess market players' hydrogen transmission needs. As such, the two gas transmission system operators have decided to launch a call for developing an open-access, cross-border network for the transmission of low-carbon hydrogen in Hainaut, more specifically between the areas of Valenciennes in France and Mons in Belgium.
Fluxys, ArcelorMittal Belgium and North Sea Port have started a feasibility study for the Ghent Carbon Hub project, an open-access CO2 storage and liquefaction hub in the Ghent part of North Sea Port.
GASCADE and Fluxys as long-standing partners in pipeline infrastructure join forces in two key projects for shaping the hydrogen economy in Germany: doing hydrogen and AquaDuctus. These infrastructure projects are to connect hydrogen demand centres with onshore and offshore hydrogen production, making a major contribution to Germany’s decarbonisation efforts.
