About Dunkerque LNG
Introduction
Dunkerque LNG owns and operates the Dunkerque LNG terminal, which began commercial operations on January 1, 2017. Its subsidiary, Gaz Opale, is the terminal operator.
The Dunkerque LNG terminal imports liquefied natural gas (LNG), stores it, and regasifies it for distribution to industrial and domestic consumers via the gas transmission network.
The second largest terminal in continental Europe, the Dunkerque LNG terminal is also the only one in Europe to be directly connected to two consumer markets: France and Belgium.
Its annual regasification capacity of 13 billion m3 represents more than 25% of French and Belgian annual natural gas consumption.
Since it began commercial operations on January 1, 2017, the Dunkerque LNG terminal has generated economic benefits for the region. With around 89 direct jobs, around 100 indirect jobs, and already more than $67.5 million in local taxes, the terminal contributes to the region's dynamism.
For many years, the transport of liquefied natural gas (LNG) by ship has been growing rapidly. What are the advantages of transporting LNG by ship over building gas pipelines? Greater flexibility of supply and lower costs for distances greater than 3,000 km. The LNG chain also allows gas to be transported safely when pipeline transport is not possible or when the distance between the place of production and the place of consumption is too great.
