Fluxys Chile and ENAP strengthen cooperation to advance hydrogen and derivatives infrastructure in Chile

24/06/25 - Fluxys Chile and ENAP have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen their strategic cooperation and jointly explore infrastructure opportunities for hydrogen and derivatives in Chile’s southernmost region, Magallanes.

The agreement, formalised during the Belgian State Visit to Chile on 24 June 2025, marks a new milestone in the two companies’ shared commitment to support the global energy transition. The collaboration framework focuses on the development of infrastructure for the transmission, storage, and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives—such as ammonia, methanol or even e-fuels—as well as CO₂ handling solutions.

ENAP, Chile’s state-owned oil and gas company, holds a robust portfolio of assets, including ports, terminals, and pipelines across Chili. These assets position ENAP as a central player in enabling shared infrastructure for the region’s emerging hydrogen economy.

Fluxys, together with EIG, is already a co-shareholder with ENAP in the GNL Quintero LNG terminal in Chile, and are keen to widen their presence in Chile and jointly drive forward the logistic chains for connecting new low-carbon energy sources into Belgium and Europe.

The Magallanes region offers exceptional conditions for green hydrogen production, including some of the world’s most stable and powerful onshore wind resources, abundant land, and direct access to both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans via the Strait of Magellan. Several global energy players are already active in the area.

Fluxys Chile and ENAP sign MoU to strengthen cooperation.
