JERA and Dunkerque LNG Sign 6-Year Agreement for Regasification Capacity Starting from 2031

JERA Co., Inc. (“JERA”) and Dunkerque LNG have signed a six-year agreement for a regasification capacity of 2 billion cubic metres (bcm) of LNG per year at the Dunkirk terminal, starting in 2031.

JERA is a global energy leader active across the entire value chain, including participation in upstream gas exploration and production, LNG projects, fuel procurement and transportation, and power generation globally. With a global footprint, JERA is Japan’s largest power generation company and one of the world’s largest fuel handling capacities.

Ryosuke Tsugaru, Chief Low Carbon Fuel Officer of JERA, stated:

“Strengthening flexibility across our LNG supply chain is essential to ensuring stable energy supply in an increasingly uncertain environment. This partnership with Dunkerque LNG enhances our ability to respond to changing market conditions while supporting Japan’s energy security.”

Olivier Heurtin, CEO of Dunkerque LNG, stated:

We are delighted to begin the collaboration with JERA through this agreement. JERA’s arrival alongside us marks a major milestone for Dunkerque LNG and confirms the attractiveness of our terminal at the heart of the European LNG market.

This partnership is part of a long-term vision, built on shared values of reliability, industrial performance, and contribution to Europe’s energy security of supply.”

As a result of this agreement, the entire available capacity of the Dunkerque LNG terminal — i.e. 13 billion cubic meters per year — is now fully contracted until 2036. Regasification capacities are available as of 2037.
