Beschreibung
The Zeebrugge LNG Terminal is certified according to the ISCC framework, which allows the terminal to be part of a BioLNG supply chain and ISCC certified shippers to obtain a BioLNG certificate.
There are 2 ways to obtain BioLNG in the Zeebrugge Terminal:
1. Bring gas with a biomethane certificate to the terminal and convert it to LNG with a BioLNG certificate
This conversion is subject to the “mass balance principle” which means that:
1. the biomethane which reaches the Zeebrugge Terminal via backhaul capacity in the
Belgian Transmission grid,
2. is liquefied and
3. the BioLNG liquefaction capacity has been allocated to such shipper for the certificate
transfer.
When the conversion into BioLNG is executed, you can:
4. Store your BioLNG and
5. Use your BioLNG for different applications
You can choose to take care of all steps in the BioLNG supply chain or only some.

Good to know
At the LNG terminal of Zeebrugge, two (re-)liquefaction units, referred to as "recondensers", are used in the process flow for regasification.
In those recondensers the natural gas is cooled down and liquefied, this technical liquefaction process allows terminal users to convert biomethane certificates into BioLNG certificates.
As the demand for converting biomethane certificates into BioLNG certificates might exceed the capability of the recondensers, a transparent and non-discriminatory demand procedure and allotment rule are required.
