LNG terminal in Dunkirk: industrial start-up of the facility

08.07.2016

Friday 8 July, the terminal for liquified natural gas (LNG) in Dunkirk has received its first LNG tanker, thereby launching the industrial start-up of the facility.

Under construction for the past four and a half years, the terminal's first cargo will be used to cool down the installations to the temperature of cold LNG (-162°C). A second LNG ship is due to arrive in the first half of August to complete a series of finalizing system tests. By the end of September the terminal should be ready to start its commercial activities and receive the first ships of customers.

The commissioning of the new terminal will increase Europe's annual LNG import capacity by 13 billion m³. This natural gas will also be available to the wider Northwest European market through the pipeline connecting Dunkirk and the Zeebrugge area.

Fluxys is a 25% shareholder in Dunkerque LNG, asset owner of the LNG terminal in Dunkirk. Fluxys is also a 49% shareholder of Gaz-Opale, the company responsible for operating the terminal.
