Always dig trial trenches

Exact location and depth of the pipeline

The markers or markings placed by the patrol officer only show the approximate location of the pipeline. The exact location and depth of the pipeline should therefore always be confirmed by digging an appropriate number of trial trenches under the supervision of our patrol officer.

  • If the pipe runs in a straight line, trial trenches should be dug at least every 50 metres. 
  • If the pipeline curves, you should dig as many trial trenches as necessary to confirm the exact location of the pipeline.

Only with a spade and shovel

You may only carry out the trial trenches with a spade and shovel. Under exceptional circumstances, a hard upper layer (such as road surfacing, for example) may be removed using a machine, provided:

  • A Fluxys patrol officer is present when you remove this surface layer; 
  • An earthwork contractor is at the machine to guide it; 
  • Everything under the surface layer is cleared using a spade and shovel.

  • AND: All the search terms must be included in the publication. Typing in Apple AND Pear will return publications containing both the word Apple and the word Pear.

     

  • OR :  At least one of the search terms must be included in the publication. Typing in Apple OR Pear will return publications containing either the word Apple or the word Pear or both.

     

  • NOT: The term preceded by NOT must not be included in the publication. Typing in Apple NOT Pear will return publications containing the word Apple but not the word Pear.
