What is natural gas?
Natural gas is the most environmentally sound of all fossil fuels. In Belgium, it accounts for almost 25% of primary energy consumption. That figure is due to rise in years to come thanks to the ecological benefits natural gas offers.
Fossil fuel
Natural gas is produced through the decomposition of organic animal and vegetable matter. That is why it is called a fossil fuel. It is non-toxic and consists primarily (90%) of methane (CH4) and other hydrocarbons, such as butane and propane. The natural gas we use today is approximately 600 million years old. |
