Maintaining pressure
Pressure is required to move natural gas through a pipeline network. However, pressure gradually drops off due to friction between the natural gas molecules and the pipe walls. The purpose of a compressor station is to maintain pressure in the network.
The Weelde and Winksele compressor stations increase the pressure of low-calorific natural gas in the pipeline from Poppel on the Dutch border to Blaregnies on the French border.
The Berneau compressor station boosts the pressure of high-calorific natural gas in the pipeline from 's Gravenvoeren on the Dutch border to Blaregnies on the French border.
The Sinsin compressor station increases the pressure of high-calorific natural gas in the pipeline to Luxembourg.
The Zelzate compressor station provides additional capacity needed to meet the overall rise in demand for natural gas in Belgium.
