Transmission

Domestic and border-to-border transmission services

  • services for domestic transmission of natural gas, with a view to supplying customers on Belgian territory. Customers include distribution system operators, large industrial sites and power stations.
  • services for border-to-border transmission of natural gas with a view to supplying other North-Western European markets.

Over 50 System Users

As of 1 August 2011 there were 32 System Users with a sypply licence for domestic transmission. 16 System Users reserved capacity for supplying natural gas on the Belgian market. At present, around 55 System Users reserved capacity on the Fluxys grid for border-to-border transmission. Long-term booked capacity for border-to-border transmission accounts for 90 billion cubic metres per year for existing infrastructure and about 10 billion cubic metres per year for infrastructure under construction or to be built.

Around 300 delivery points on the Fluxys grid

17 natural gas distribution system operators in Belgium are connected to the Fluxys grid via around 90 aggregated receiving stations. They distribute natural gas to end users connected to their grids: households and small and medium enterprises. In addition, about 250 large industrial sites, power stations and combined heat & power units are directly connected to the Fluxys grid.

Fluxys grid: central crossroads for gas flows in North-Western Europe

With 18 interconnection points with neighbouring natural gas transmission systems, Fluxys has developed its grid into a central crossroads for gas flows in North-Western Europe:

  • transmission of Dutch and Norwegian natural gas to France, Spain and Italy
  • transmission of British natural gas to continental Europe
  • transmission of Russian natural gas to countries including the United Kingdom
  • transmission of natural gas to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
  • natural gas is also passed on to other end-user markets from the LNG terminal in Zeebrugge.

Fluxys’ role as a crossroads for gas flows from various sources also offers grid users a wide range of arbitrage opportunities on the Zeebrugge Hub, one of the largest spot markets for natural gas trading in Europe.

Investment projects and market consultations

Fluxys has earmarked €2.1 billion for the projects included in its indicative investment programme 2010-2019 and transmission projects account for about 90% of the budget. The yearly update of Fluxys’ 10 year indicative investment programme takes into account changing needs in terms of security of supply, new requests for connections to the grid and additional requirements from system users identified through subscription periods and market consultations.

New capacity north/south
> Enhancing capacity on the transmission axis to Grand Duchy of Luxembourg
> Market consultation for border-to-border transmission capacity from the Czech Republic via Germany to Belgium and reverse
> Open season with a view to developing firm transmission capacity from France to Belgium

Tips for using search operators

Use "quotation marks" to search for a series of words or a phrase in a specific order.

Boolean operators

You can find a group of words or a phrase by using the link words AND, OR and NOT:
known as Boolean operators, these words are used to combine terms in the search field.

  • AND: All the search terms must be included in the publication. Typing in Apple AND Pear will return publications containing both the word Apple and the word Pear.

  • OR :  At least one of the search terms must be included in the publication. Typing in Apple OR Pear will return publications containing either the word Apple or the word Pear or both.

  • NOT: The term preceded by NOT must not be included in the publication. Typing in Apple NOT Pear will return publications containing the word Apple but not the word Pear.
