Indication of presence, not exact location
On the surface, the path of a pipeline is marked out using beacons and markers. However, it should be borne in mind that a beacon or marker only shows the route of a pipeline and does not tell you its exact location. To determine the exact location and depth of the pipeline, you should contact Fluxys’ regional operating sector. A patrol officer will come on-site to mark out the course.
Different kinds of beacons and markers
- Beacons are intended for use by Fluxys helicopter patrols.
- The measuring posts are used for monitoring a pipeline's cathodic protection system. They are not markers as such, but indicate the presence of a pipeline as well.
- Plastic markers are placed at the boundary of the nearest plot.
- Concrete markers are placed beside railways, waterways and verges.
- If the pipeline is beside a road, there will be markers in the road surface.
